Since 2008, A Good Start has served over 260 families and children who are entering kindergarten in the Fall. This literacy rich program is a partnership between Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church, Ohio Wesleyan University and Neighborhood Services, Inc. with support from many other local social service partners.
We believe in developing a child's confidence, understanding how to be a part of a learning community, and grow in their love of learning. We believe nurturing trusting relationships with children and their families, and connecting them to school and social services, builds the community we serve. We are committed to each child's experience and empowering each family to advocate for their child now and throughout their educational career. Our daily program mimicks a typical Kindergarten day in order to provide children practice and exposure to the expecations that will be in place when they enter Kindergarten. Families are encouraged to be an active part of the experience through weekly communication and workshops and through collaborative events with local partners. |
